The Senior Health & Safety Advisor provides direct operational support to project teams, ensuring health, safety, environment, quality and wellbeing standards are applied consistently on site. Works under the guidance of the Manager HSEQ and Senior Manager HSEQ to implement company HSEQ systems and statutory requirements. Supports mentoring of Advisors and Graduate Advisors within the business unit. 

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support the delivery and implementation of HSEQ systems, procedures and standards on allocated projects 
  • Conduct site inspections, audits and reviews to monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement 
  • Assist in the preparation of risk assessments, method statements, environmental management plans and wellbeing initiatives 
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, ensuring thorough analysis and follow-up on corrective actions 
  • Provide guidance and support to project teams on HSEQ matters Deliver HSEQ awareness briefings, toolbox talks and training to site teams 
  • Collect, analyse and report HSEQ performance data to the Manager HSEQ 
  • Promote a positive HSEQ culture through engagement with site teams 
  • Support tender and pre-contract processes with HSEQ input 
  • Maintain awareness of relevant legislation, standards and best practice and support compliance across projects 

Experience

  • Experience in construction HSEQ within a project environment 
  • Knowledge of health, safety, environmental, quality and wellbeing requirements 
  • Ability to advise and influence operational teams and subcontractors Strong communication, reporting and interpersonal skills Ability to prioritise tasks and manage workload in a dynamic environment 
  • Proactive approach to identifying and mitigating HSEQ risks 

Qualifications

Required

 

  • Degree or professional qualification in Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Quality Management or related discipline 
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent recognised H&S qualification 
  • Experience in risk assessment, auditing, incident investigation and compliance monitoring.

 

Desirable 

  • IOSH or other professional membership 
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 or other relevant management systems 
  • Previous experience mentoring junior HSEQ team members
