We are seeking a qualified Accountant with a minimum of three years' post-qualification experience to join our finance team. The successful candidate will support financial control, reporting and compliance requirements across construction projects, operating entities and, where relevant, joint venture arrangements. The role offers exposure to project accounting, management reporting, statutory reporting, budgeting, forecasting and process improvement within a fast-paced construction environment.

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting


•    Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting analysis.
•    Perform month-end close activities, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
•    Analyse project and overhead costs and investigate variances.
•    Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items.
•    Support the preparation of annual statutory financial statements.


Construction and Project Accounting


•    Monitor project financial performance and profitability.
•    Review project cost reports, forecasts and cash flow information.
•    Assist project and commercial teams with financial analysis and reporting.
•    Support accounting for joint ventures, subcontractor arrangements and project-specific transactions.
•    Ensure accurate cost allocation and revenue recognition in accordance with company policies.


Budgeting and Forecasting


•    Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
•    Support business units in analysing project performance against budgets.
•    Prepare ad hoc financial models and scenario analyses.


Compliance and Controls


•    Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies and regulatory requirements.
•    Assist with VAT, payroll-related reporting and other compliance obligations as required.
•    Maintain strong financial controls and identify opportunities for process improvements.
•    Support internal and external audit activities.

Experience

  • Strong financial reporting and month-end accounting experience.
  • Experience preparing management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Exposure to budgeting, forecasting and audit processes.
  • Experience within a construction, engineering, contracting or project-based environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and accounting principles.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems COINS is a plus, but not required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communicator with the confidence to engage across all levels of the business.
  • Proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach.

Qualifications

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
  • Minimum three years' post-qualification experience.
