Overview

 

The BIM Engineer will play a key role within the Digital Project Delivery (DPD) team and support project teams with developing, managing and delivering multi-disciplinary BIM standards & digital strategy. As a BIM Engineer, you will provide technical expertise and leadership to implement, develop and manage a successful BIM process from Precontract all the way through the project delivery and handover.

Responsibilities

Pre-Contract Stage

 

  • Supporting the review of EIR, development of BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and associated documents (e.g. MPDT, MIDP, TIDP, SCDC assessments, etc.).
  • Reviewing 3D BIM models received at tender stage for federation, engineering checks, clash detection, logistics and cost management.
  • Supporting UK BIM lead with the assessment of the supply chain digital capabilities.
  • Producing temporary works 3D model for technical reviews, estimating costs and clash detection.
  • Work with planning team to develop, coordinate and deliver 4D BIM model.
  • Developing and coordinate visualisations and interactive 3D Models.

 

Project Delivery Stage

 

  • Acting as BIM point of contact onsite carrying out walk-throughs and demonstrations to key stakeholders.
  • Assisting and supporting the project team to understand their contractual obligations to manage a BIM process.
  • Supporting the production and delivery of project BEP, MIDP, MPDT and digital implementation strategy.
  • Reviewing and validating project Information Model (PIM) developed by design teams and sub-contractors.
  • Assisting the coordination of 3D Models in engineering and design team meetings.
  • Carrying out weekly clash detection, issue reports and liaise with design teams
  • Setup BIMCollab and ensure right protocols are in place for managing and coordinating the Clashes and design issues in the platform and throughout the design team meetings (DTMs)
  • Assist planning team in developing and managing 4D planning strategy.
  • Support logistics team with the use of 3D BIM models for optimising the construction logistics and traffic management.
  • Working with site management team to promote and integrate the use Digital field tools and 3D BIM models.
  • Ensuring sub-contractors are fully aware of their roles and responsibilities within the DPD team.
  • Managing and validate sub-contractors information deliverables in accordance to BEP and associated documents.
  • Supporting BIM Lead with DPD audits and implementation of new technologies.
  • Providing upskilling and hands-on training sessions for project teams.
  • Reporting success and measuring the benefits of DPD across the projects.
  • Capture best practices and lessons learnt to be shared with wider business and other projects.

 

Digital Tools and Systems

  • Autodesk Revit: Comprehensive knowledge in developing, editing and publishing 3D BIM models and components
  • Autodesk Navisworks: Comprehensive knowledge in production of NWD files for navigation, clash detection and data validation of PIM.
  • Autodesk AutoCAD: good knowledge in producing, editing and publishing 2D and 3D data.
  • Synchro Pro: desirable knowledge in using synchro to produce fully coordinated 4D BIM Models
  • BIMCollab: Comprehensive knowledge
  • Information Management: Essential knowledge of working in a CDE such as Viewpoint for Projects (VFP), Autodesk 360 or similar.

  • Effective supervisory and organisational skills.
  • Be able to work in multi-faceted working environments on a range of project types.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with pre-contract and operational teams.
  • Excellent reporting skills.
  • Presentation skills – public speaking.
  • Strong communication skills and being able to build positive working relationships.
  • Self-motivated, ability to manage and prioritise own workload.

Experience

  • 3–4+ years’ experience on multi-disciplinary projects with BIM Level 2 standards. 

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Construction, computing or related discilpine. 
  • Professional BIM or digital construction certification desirable. 
  • Advanced user of Autodesk Revit, Navisworks and AutoCAD. 
  • Familiarity with CDE platforms such as VFP, Autodesk 360 or equivalent. 
  • Commitment to continuous professional development in BIM and digital construction
